I initially bought this jewelry box for my two year old daughter as her first jewelry box. She was just starting to really be interested in mommy's jewelry box along with the items inside, so I thought she'd really enjoy one of her own to put her own jewelry in. When I opened it up I realized immediately that this is not a toy for a small child. This is a beautiful and delicately made jewelry box intended for older girls, probably ages 5 or 6 and up(depending on the child I supposed). My daughter's great grandfather buys her diamond rings every calendar holiday so this is the perfect little jewelry box to store them until she is older. It is not a very sturdy box, I don't think it was made to be played hard with by young children. So if you are looking for a jewelry box for a toddler or child under 5 this is not the one to buy, it is too delicate. It is absolutely beautiful and whimsical, perfect for that "little princess" and her room. I found it to be a great buy, especially for the price, the construction has an antique feel to it and it is small enough to sit on a bureau or on a shelf and it one of the few boxes I have found to be "classically pretty", since everything lately is cartoon related somehow, and is also timeless and won't be outgrown for a long time. Long story short - I'd buy it again.
